85 ~ The Thurayya star ~

Specially dedicated to a younnnng boy by the name of Salmaan whos parents would make an effort to go out of their way for me from the beginning of my journey.

His mom would often stop by & drop off a bunch of flowers along her daily rounds out on the road.

A week ago she phoned to relay the saddening news of his diagnosis & I could not believe my ears. My heart took a frantic leap.

I wanted to tell them something, tell him something, but what???

What do you tell a 13 year old who had to be given half a litre +- blood? Who’s heart rate flew up to 150 due to pain? & is being given morphine to manage..

Yesterday:

“The sight of Salmaan laying curled & frumpled up in a fetal position was so breaking”.

Eventually I said, since him & I are on the patient ends, I can muster up courage to say a few words.

When you feel someone’s pain, the words automatically flow without a search.

To his parents I cannot, but send abundant prayers their way, & of course they can relate to my parents being on the caretaker end.

Here’s a summarized version for readers to understand his condition:

ใ€Š ULCERATIVE COLITIS ใ€‹

Ul-sur-uh-tiv Koe-lie-tis

A chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes long lasting inflammation & ulcers (sores) on your digestive tract.

NO! IT IS NOT THE SAME AS THE COMMON ULCER WE EXPERIENCE FROM TIME. TO. TIME.

UC affects the innermost lining of your large intestine (colon) and rectum.

Types vary from mild to severe. Treatments are performed accordingly. Abstain from telling a patient the worst cases. Instead, provide them with encouragement & hope they will still be able to live a life, not just survive.

All cases are not the same.

Lab tests & imaging required for diagnosis.

Symptoms: Usually develop over time, not always sudden.

Rectal bleeding, bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps & pain.

Pain types: They also experience pain in the abdomen, rectum or joints.

It can occur intermittently or continuous.

Gastrointestinal issues: bloating, constipation, inability to empty bowels, leaking of stool or an urgent need to defecate.

Whole body: Anemia, fatigue, fever or loss of appetite.

Also common: Cramping, scarring within the bile ducts & weight loss.

For those who are perfectly healthy without any issue, I’d say 1 sentence:

“Blood donators are life saviors.”

However, please remember, a person should first undergo a check to determine if everything is in order to donate.

He is a unique child. We are not related nor acquainted via the institution I taught at. During examination periods I’d get sent for invigilation to other classes & a familiarity would be created with students besides my own.

At that point he was not even in the institution. Yet, he’d sincerely inquire about my well being after falling ill.

For others it may appear on a high level, but for an intelligent minded boy.. I’m quite sure he will understand the meaning behind my message.

SALMAAN:

I fondly recall you visiting with a cute smile

Always asking my mom & brother how am I?

Suddenly your world spun

There was & is no where to run

Only above into the arms of one

Who sees your entire being strapped by solid reigns

Seizing you tight into a realm of crippling pain.

At the tender age of 13 years

Pierced by an illness that sears

Your body screams ouw!

Why did this happen now?

You might also wonder how?!

Your heart begins to pound

Excessive bleeding bowls you down

Had you shrieked a shrilling sound

Nightmares would make listener’s drown.

Temporarily life has stopped

School and hobbies dropped

You’re at a complete standstill

Being grinded through the mill.

Medication makes you dazed

But your ranks are being raised

Towards such a lofty extent

Our minds cannot extend.

Its okay to feel lost

And say this is all a lot.

In the beginning this journey is so confusing & overwhelming

You will hear or read this & perhaps think, what is she talking?

If we are promised rewards for the prick of a thorn

How much more you’re earning, from dusk to dawn

By oath, you are so dear unto your lord

He chose you to lay in a high care ward

Placed in your hands a huge sword

To thrust back with determined force

To keep you immaculately pure

& keep your ticket to paradise secure.

Enjoyment of this world is but, a limited sample

Patience moulds the desired & unparalled original.

Our illnesses are different

Though, I say from experience,

Soon the clouds will clear

Rainbows will appear

It might seem too long

Or I’m chanting a silly song.

The current may not settle now

Time for it to do so, let us allow

Whilst we bow down frayed

Difficulties certainly pay

Soon the sun will flash its rays.

1400 years ago in the preceded era

A celebrity you were named after

Our prophet (May the choicest of salutations be upon him) praised his worth

With the following admirable words

“If faith was at the Thurayya star

He would’ve reached that far”

Considered to be among the prophets esteemed family

The same noble & exemplary personality

Conquered battles with his strategic faculties

In the metaphorical sense

Your battle has become dense

The suffering totally immense

Faith will get a couple of dents

But akin to his, it will revamp

You’ll be given strength

To advance without relent.

You are not & this is not a burden entrusted

Unto the Almighty you are most beloved.

May the brave, mischievous salmaan

Who conveyed to me plenty salaam

Be wrapped in the solace of Ar-Rahmaan

And awarded the most befitting prizes of Al-Mannaan.

** Ar-Rahmaan is an Arabic term for “The most merciful”

** Al-Mannaan is an Arabic term for “The benefactor”

Both from among the 99 beautiful names of the Almighty ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’–

I fall short of expressing gratitude to the Almighty & my mentors who have taught me the book titled ุตูˆุฑ ู…ู† ุญูŠุงุฉ ุงู„ุตุญุงุจุฉ, from which the 2 excerpts of Salmaan Al Faarsiy’s life (may the Almighty be pleased with him) continously rang in my head.

Soaking & reminiscing through these illuminating chapters of faith, courage, resilience & sublime characteristics of a selfless nation has rejuvenated & empowered my entire battle.

Regarding the Thurayya star ๐ŸŒŸ I’m not going into detailed explanations. Below is an image mentioning briefly & 2 links attached for those who wish to read in depth.

    1. Jazakillah Khair ๐Ÿ’™. There are very few posts where I actually shed tears when writing & thisss 1 was among them. I had to really contain myself without letting too much emo flow in. Having said that, I hope he gets at least even a little touch of what I felt when dedicating the portion to him.

When I have major GP pain I know how crippling it is, in your mind you’d holler for sedation to escape from it sometimes. Whereas, in terms of gastrointestinal chronic issues, his condition is worst than my level.

Aameen to all your lovely duaas, that is truly needed. From my nephews story & accounts were related to me of how dazed my parents were when I was in hospital, so can not even begin to imagine how they feel having to go home to that emptiness with their child lying alone in a hospital bed.

May the Almighty bestow all caretakers with abundance of strength from his strength, Aameen.
