Dr is also concentrating on the:
Fascia
Which is a band or sheet of connective tissue, primarily collagen, beneath the skin that attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and other internal organs
Intercostal muscles
Are several groups of muscles that run between the ribs, and help form and move the chest wall. The intercostal muscles are mainly involved in the mechanical aspect of breathing. These muscles help expand and shrink the size of the chest cavity to facilitate breathing.
During my hand and arm flare up that began about 2 months ago.. She explained to me a technique called:
Nerve flossing
Usually nerve bundles are connected but have their own space to work in..
Sometimes adhesions develop – meaning the nerve bundles can become sort of “sticky” / join to one another – opposed to its normal state. This causes electric-like static shocks.
(Alike the electricity analogy we presented before)
So nerve flossing also known as nerve or neural gliding is a type of gentle exercise that stretches irritated nerves. It can improve their range of motion and reduce pain, & helps the nerves to move and work in an optimal condition.
Please don’t try it if you don’t have a diagnosis. Always consult with a qualified professional first before trying anything.
You also get different types of nerve flossing. But I was only given the arm and hand ones.
A hypermobile finger
(In short words an EDS finger)
When examining my hands, Dr also pointed out that the joints and area surrounding my thumb on the left hand, is hypermobile & extra flexible. It bends out of proportion more than it actually should.
This doesn’t necessarily mean I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (A connective tissue disorder that also causes Dysautonomia). But could be due to a number of reasons, although I haven’t been checked for EDS which has 13 subtypes.
I experience a lot of pain in this very same area, but always thought it to be part of the small fiber neuropathic pain so didn’t think further into it.
Then when she pointed it out without me mentioning it to her, I was totally astounded.
“You are the first medical professional I’ve met, who knows what EDS is all about?! Some don’t even believe in EDS and term it controversial whereas its actually a 💯 condition that exists”
She’s surprised that I know of it not being a medical professional..
Well, most of the time I have to do the professionals job for myself 😆💁♀️🤣
Then we both laugh at each other’s astonishment.
She wanted to use a special tape to hold it in place together but because of the flare up and my skin being hyper sensitive, it wasn’t possible because the tape will irritate it more. So she asked me not to use the hand a lot until we’re able to use the tape or find a ring splint similar to the ones below
Protein powder
After I explained to her my dilemma with the lack of protein not being able to meat, egg, lentils, etc.
Previously I also tried Ensure, Life Gain, Wazoogles, & Solal.. But none of these meal replacements or supplements agreed with my body. Some being too heavy on the GI tract and others triggering migraines.
Dr is vegan so she used this one & suggested i try it too. It doesn’t have to be liquidised or mixed in a shake, you can also put a tsp or tbsp into any recipe that requires flour. Like pancakes, or whatever is suitable to digest.
